Analysis and Design

For me, analysis and design are closely related in the whole instruction process. In ADDIE model, analysis is in the first phase of process because it is the base of the whole. An instruction or training program may get involved with a wide range of audience of different ages and different background with various needs and desired goals. A descent design must take into account a wide range of information gathered during analysis. Without analysis aimed at a target population and setting certain objectives for existing problem-solving soultions, instruction design is prone to fail.

The Information R/Evolution by Michael Wesch gave a general picture of the change of the ways we find, store, create, critique, and share information. The video suggested we have to rethink information from different point of view which concept fits the needs for analysis well, in my humble opinion. With all gathered information in hand for analysis, it requires expertise and various perspective considerations to design an in-depth, effective and efficient plan.

  1. I agree that Analysis and Design are closely related in instructional design. They are the "what" and "how" of the process. I have found that once a project is defined, I start designing goals and objective simultaneously with the needs analysis. Our textbook favors the Spiral Model which bundles Analysis and Design stages into the Define process.
You gave a great overview of the video. The way that we process information is very important if we are going to design connected and effective projects. I think the video is very similar to the Machine is Us/ing Us from last week.
